ara.cc.gatech.edu and the academic lab linux desktops are down due to latency when trying to launch a GNOME session. We are currently looking at smb issues with mounting home directories.

UPDATE: Feb 18, 2009 4:07PM. Samba home directories continue to have mounting problems, TSO is working with OIT to address this problem. Because of this latency, TSO has modified the ara linux servers to disallow login should a mount of a samba home directory fail. Users should attempt to login again, should they fail on the first attempt.

UPDATE: Feb 20, 2009 9:26AM. The issue was resolved late Wednesday night, and regular operation of the ara environment and linux desktops was observed the entirety of Thursday.
