WHAT HAPPENED?
TSO has received several reports of wireless issues in CoC buildings and elsewhere on campus this Fall and has notified OIT regarding these issues.
OIT has noted that they have also received reports this Fall from other campus users involving devices disconnecting and reconnecting, poor coverage, and poor performance. Some of the issues have been identified and guidance to work around those have been posted to the LAWN website (http://lawn.gatech.edu/). OIT continues to troubleshoot as additional reports are received. Additional information is available at http://nique.net/news/2012/10/05/oit-addresses-internet-concerns/
WHEN DID IT HAPPEN?
Since the beginning of the Fall semester.
WHY DID IT HAPPEN?
There are multiple possibilities as to why users may be experiencing wireless network problems depending on several factors, but OIT has not confirmed the cause.
WHO WAS AFFECTED?
Wireless LAWN users on campus.
WHAT DO YOU NEED TO DO?
OIT requests that users who are on LAWN and are currently experiencing wireless issues, visit http://lawn.gatech.edu/debug from a host on LAWN. Any other issues should be submitted to OIT and should include the username, MAC address, time/date, location, and a description of the problem.
HAS THE PROBLEM BEEN RESOLVED?
Not yet. OIT continues to address problem reports. Over the upcoming fall break, OIT will perform campus-wide controller updates to provide stability improvements as well as an interoperability fix for some Windows 8 clients. Additionally, they'll enable recent features that improve dynamic channel and power changes in high density locations.
