Beginning at 3:00 AM, Friday, January 23, 2009, UNIX and Linux systems that are updated by nightly.update will begin to have their /etc/resolv.conf files updated to reflect the addition of two new DNS servers, timewand.cc.gatech.edu and teleporter.cc.gatech.edu. This should not impact users of those systems. This is being done in preparation for the upcoming retirement of the DNS servers zeon.cc.gatech.edu and solaria.cc.gatech.edu (date to be announced). Users whose UNIX/Linux systems are not updated by nightly.update should examine their systems and update which DNS servers they are pointed to, if needed.
