The ARA VMware ESX cluster will be unavailable. This affects the following services:

Graduate Student Home Directories
Academic Remote Access
Various Academic resource servers
Academic HPC Home Directory Servers

On the following systems:

ara.cc.gatech.edu
murray.cc.gatech.edu
maybourne.cc.gatech.edu
ambrose.cc.gatech.edu
hagrid.cc.gatech.edu

On Tuesday, February 9, 2010, from 5:00 PM to 12:00 AM.

WHY IS IT HAPPENING?

Due to a security vulnerability in VMware ESX, the ARA VMware ESX cluster will be patched and rebooted. The vulnerability is published here: http://alert.is.gatech.edu/index/alert?id=337

WHO IS AFFECTED?

All CoC faculty, staff and students who use https://ara.cc.gatech.edu and the above-mentioned resources.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO DO?

Any CoC users accessing the above-mentioned systems need to save their work and log out of those systems prior to 5:00 PM to avoid losing data.

UPDATE: Due to a last-minute homework scheduling conflict, the patching of the ESX Server cluster has been postponed. A rescheduled maintenance window is set for Wednesday, February 17, 2010 from 5PM to midnight.

UPDATE: The maintenance is complete. All services have been restored and should be functioning normally.
