WHAT?S HAPPENING?
Some Exchange users are receiving bounced messages after sending email to the following users:
Ron Arkin (arkin@cc.gatech.edu)
Chad Huneycutt (chadh@cc.gatech.edu)
Janet Kolodner (jlk@cc.gatech.edu)
Santosh Vempala (vempala@cc.gatech.edu)
Jon Giffin (giffin@cc.gatech.edu)
Calton Pu (calton@cc.gatech.edu)
WHEN IS IT HAPPENING?
This issue has been sporadic since the Exchange maintenance performed on February 2, 2010. For complete details, please see http://support.cc.gatech.edu/utilities/alerts/exchange-cleanup.
WHY IS IT HAPPENING?
Initially, we believed the problem to be invalidated auto-complete entries in users' Outlook client and recommended deletion of such. Upon further investigation, GTRI believes that invalid address entries are not actually deleting from the Offline Address Book (OAB) which is generated by the Exchange server and then downloaded by the Outlook client. We are working with GTRI to resolve this issue.
WHO IS AFFECTED?
Exchange users only. Please note this is not a general email issue affecting GT Zimbra or off campus mailers. It is an Exchange only issue.
WHAT DO YOU NEED TO DO?
Please be patient as we resolve the issue. As of 12:00 today, we have put a fix in place. We will not be able to determine if the solution works until after 12:00 noon tomorrow (February 16, 2010), since the OAB takes up to 24 hours to propagate out to the Outlook clients.
WHO SHOULD YOU CONTACT FOR QUESTIONS?
TSO Help Desk (CCB 148, 404.894.7065, helpdesk@cc.gatech.edu)
UPDATE:
GTRI rebuilt the Exchange Global Address List (GAL), which is also the local Offline Address Book (OAB) to resolve the problem. This was tested as working after 12:00 PM, Tuesday, February 16, 2010.
