WHAT’S HAPPENING?
Microsoft engineers have identified an issue that is causing POP/IMAP infrastructure to run in a degraded state.  Users are seeing an error message that states "unable to connect to the POP/IMAP server" but access to email is unaffected despite the error.  Automatic deletion of email is not working as expected.

Identified Wednesday, November 18, 2015 at 11:30 AM and ongoing.
 
 
WHY IS IT HAPPENING?
An update to the environment caused a degradation of the POP/IMAP service. 
 
 
WHO IS AFFECTED?
Users connecting to the campus Office 365 email system with IMAP mail clients.
 
 
WHAT DO YOU NEED TO DO?
No user action is necessary.  Microsoft is developing a fix, which will be deployed once available.  Additional information can be found here: https://status.gatech.edu/
