WHAT HAPPENED?
User authentication to Office 365 Web Access is failing for some users.  Users encountering this problem are being repeatedly prompted to input their credentials, without being passed through to the webmail application.

Beginning at 5:00 AM, Friday, April 15, 2016, and ongoing.

 
WHY DID IT HAPPEN?
No cause has yet been identified.  OIT is currently working with the vendor to affect resolution.

 
WHO WAS AFFECTED?
Anyone attempting to access Office 365 via the web (https://mail.gatech.edu).

 
WHAT DO YOU NEED TO DO?
Affected users should use a mail client to connect to their GT mail, according to instructions available here: https://support.cc.gatech.edu/services/e-mail
 
 
HAS THE PROBLEM BEEN RESOLVED?
No.  OIT and Microsoft are actively troubleshooting.  Further information and updates are available at https://status.gatech.edu

UPDATE:
OIT and Microsoft tracked the root cause of the issue to missing key information that allows for authentication across Office 365 applications via single sign due to a faulty update. OIT staff resolved the problem by entering the information manually, and the service was returned to normal operation by 5:30 PM on Friday, April 15, 2016.
